CEMCDO led the 50th-anniversary celebration of General Santos City last June 15, 2018. Guests included government officials, law enforcement agencies, institutional representatives, government agencies, and school districts.
A two-group civic military parade marked the commencement at 5:00 in the morning– one beginning at Plaza Heneral, the second beginning at Queen Tuna Park (Magsaysay Beach). Generals also witnessed the wreath laying on the effigy of the city’s founding father, General Paulino Santos, Sr. City Mayor Ronnel Rivera, Vice-Mayor Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles, and other government VIPs were also present to lead this symbol of dedication at Plaza Heneral Santos.
Under the leadership of Ms. Carmen Royeca and the members of the Sons & Daughters of Pioneers and Descendants, the parade of the 50 horse riders led by Mr. Boyet Leyson III was organized to symbolize the city’s journey over the past 50 years.
Senior Tourism Officer, Maria Cora Tito confirmed a two-part celebration of the event: (1) the morning parade at Plaza Heneral Santos followed by a ceremony of the ASEAN flags at the Oval Plaza Grandstand, and (2) the grand anniversary dinner ball at KCC Convention Center. Likewise, the Chiongbian family was also recognized for the contributions of the late Rep. James Chiongbian, aka the father of the city, who was then represented by his grandson Sarangani Governor Steve Solon.
In what will be called “Metro Gensan Day”, the 15th of June every year will be declared as the official commemoration of the city’s founding anniversary. This will not only glorify our city but also remember and appreciate the amazing Generals who contributed their time and effort in promoting Gensan’s overall development. #
