In the advent of economic diversification, General Santos City explores other opportunities aside from the agro-industrial and agri-fishery produce. It sets resilient industries in investments, tourism and services for sustainable development, particularly in agriculture, trade, communication and logistics.
That said, an Investment Forum was initiated to invite potential investors and other stakeholders where investment opportunities and business potentials in the city were presented. It also highlighted the cost of doing business, inherent business resources and supportive local governance and policies. It was also a venue to distribute and present the Investment Portfolio, a promotional material that contains basic yet important investment information and served as a guide for potential business locators in the city. A total of 110 kits were given which contained copies of promotional materials such as the General Santos City Investment Code of 2015, General Santos City Investment Priorities Plan, the General Santos City Public-Private Partnership Code, Special Economic Zones brochures, and promotional CDs containing investment and tourism related presentations.
The forum became a venue which raised issues concerning various investment activities in the city such as connectivity in the ASEAN, IT industry, land issues and other matters. Assistant Secretary to the Office of the Cabinet Secretary (OCS), Mr. Jonas George S. Soriano, was the guest of honor during the Investment Forum. He highlighted the plans and programs of the current administration of President Rodrigo R. Duterte which focused on the Ten Point Economic Agenda of the President. On the other hand, Mr. Ernie Tomas of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) presented various projects that are intended for the development and interconnectivity in Mindanao.
A presentation of investment opportunities in the region were also presented by various speakers from the Department of Industry (DTI), Department of Tourism (DOT), and Department of Agriculture (DA). Also, presentation on economic zones available for locators was done by the RD Development Corporation for the RD City, GenSan EcoZone, and Mabuhay IT Park.
