12th PH Bird Festival in Tacurong

CEMCDO team with the city mayor of Tacurong

CEMCDO participated in the 12th Philippine Bird festival in Tacurong City last May 10-12, 2018. It is the LGU Tacurong’s first hosted national event in partnership with Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) and DOT Region 12.

Tacurong celebrated this national event simultaneously with its 4th Bird Festival. City Mayor Lina Montilla said, “Tacurong has been holding a bird festival annually on the local level, and this is the first time to host an event involving birdwatchers and conservationists from the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Nepal”.

Activity Highlights

The event officially opened on May 11 with a motorcade from the cultural center through the city, then back to the original point. This was followed by booth setups with games, face painting, keychain making, picture coloring, bird watching at the Baras Bird Sanctuary, and many more.


A ribbon cutting for the photo exhibit took place at the Gallery of Kudong found inside the Cultural and Sports Center. DOT Regional Director Maria Rica C. Bueno, Senator Cynthia Villar, WBCP President Mr. Willem Van de Ven, and Indonesian Consul General in Davao Hon. Berlian Napitupulu were among the high-profile guests at the event.

 “We are happy to host the Philippine Bird Festival here this year to promote awareness and conservation of birds and to teach people to enjoy nature because it’s really beautiful,” Van de Ven expressed.

Awards and stage performances were also held in the afternoon. They organized Forums on ecotourism and conservation were given for all stakeholders and local communities. The Provincial Government of South Cotabato hosted the dinner for all foreign guests. WBCP members, together with foreign-based birdwatchers and conservationist groups, likewise made an ocular visit of bird sites in Baras Bird Sanctuary and birding sites in Lake Sebu and Tupi during the festival’s last day.
