CEMCDO Portal

One of the vital roles of the government entity is to establish transparency, accountability and accessibility. Thus, to efficiently deliver that role, CEMCDO embraces the idea of developing an online portal. This will be the window of information where visitors, investors and the constituents of General Santos City can access data related to the economic situation of the city.

It was a three-day hands-on training on wordpress content management system (CMS), covering the period of January 24-26, 2018 at CEMCDO Conference room.

Why wordpress: WordPress is a dynamic, easy to manage and open source CMS in the globe. For me it is the best CMS among others.

During the first day of the training, iffy faces of the participants appeared. That is due to the new terms of digital jargons being presented and discussed. The speaker needs to present the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), the standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications. With Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript, it forms a triad of cornerstone technologies for the World Wide Web.

On the second day, that was the interesting part of the training, since the participants enjoyed in designing, skinned pages and uploaded content of the site including images. They also learned the standard image resolution for website including the conversion of an image from the original resolution to the generally accepted screen resolution for website.

The third day, back to some unfamiliar terms, the speaker presented commonly used plug-ins and its usage, form development for visitor’s data capture facility, email system and auto reply system. Also, he presented the basic search engine optimization process – it’s a tool used to rank a website in google search, data security and data back-ups.

During the full coverage of the training, the speaker assigned a group to develop a live website in the cloud using the wordpress.org. After that, the speaker rated the output based on how the participants followed instructions and the beauty of the site they developed. It was the group of Alma and Shirley who won the best developed website. The training concluded with the awarding of certificate.
